Here we showcase the graphic design work of Faye Brown, a Arts University College of Bournemouth graduate, she recently completed the Rachael Taylor ‘Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design’ course.
After completing a degree in Graphic Design at The Arts University College of Bournemouth I pursued a career in broadcast graphics – designing title sequences, commercials and DVD menus. 11 years on and shortly after the birth of my son, I enrolled on Rachael Taylor and Beth Nicholl’s online course – The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design. The course relit my passion for bright, beautiful pattern design. I’ve recently launched my first card range ‘Just My Type’ and I’ve also been commissioned to design bibs for Funky Giraffe Bibs.
I admire the work of many designers from the great Saul Bass to the intricate designs of Johanna Basford to the bright graphic designs of Rachel Cave. I’m also inspired by the colours and culture of traveling – from city breaks to chilled out tropical beaches. More recently I’m mostly inspired by my active toddler and would love to see my designs on more children’s wear and bedding.
This year I’d like to find an agent and build my portfolio of patterns and prints focusing on children’s fashion, homewares and stationery.
