Maxine Baudains Smith says she always had a “passion for art and design,” she first developed her design skills on her Foundation Diploma in Art & Design. She then took this interest onto specialising in graphic design, her education continues at Loughborough University where she has built up her portfolio in graphic communication. This has helped her skill set to including advertising, web design, packaging, promotional design and more.
I see a client’s brief as a creative challenge and a guideline for bringing an idea to life, I like to adapt to what each new brief. My first ideas always start on paper, before going to digital. This is usually through Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign.
I adopted this technique in an internship at Printed Space, where I designed a website for their sister company FloorInk. The initial plans were sketched on paper and then developed on Photoshop. I also did this for a poster design which was selected to advertise an art exhibition by Traverse Creatives.
Another promotional material project I recently worked on was for The Gig Night event. I designed the poster and flyer with a coursemate to advertise the event in Loughborough. I also recently completed a pamphlet promoting organic cosmetics, this small booklet (A6 size) was designed to be picked up in cosmetics stores and go with the compact size of make-up. It outlines the basic facts of organic cosmetics, and opens up to reveal an A4 infographic poster.
