Surface Pattern Designer Rebecca Stoner is from Yorkshire, she setup her business back in 2005 after graduation. Her work has allowed her to work for several amazing clients and to complete lots of exciting commissions.
“I’m a Surface Pattern Designer based in the beautiful county of Yorkshire. I set up my business in 2005 straight after graduating and I’ve been very lucky to have worked on some amazing commissions for a very wide range of different clients. I create designs and patterns for surfaces such as wallpaper, fabric, architectural glass and laser cut steel to name a few! I studied at York St John University and graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Textile and Surface Pattern Design and then went straight on to gain an MSc in CAD for Textile Designers at the University of Huddersfield.
I’m from a screen printing background so love the appearance of the hand printed look in a design. As much as possible I try to incorporate hand printed textures and shapes in my design work and I also enjoy hand drawing patterns and then taking them into the computer to develop them further. I am influenced by upcoming trends but I think it’s important not to lose my own style and handwriting when incorporating them into my work. I love mid-century design and the whole interiors styling from that era, from the furniture to the fabric and wallpaper. I like quite a varied collection of designers such as Orla Kiely, Mini Moderns, Angie Lewin and Emily Sutton.”
“Highlights of my work since starting out have been working with the brand Perspex® to create designs for their new product ‘Perspex® Impressions’, having my designs licensed by a fabric company in the US, spotting my designs regularly on products such as homewares and textiles on the high-street and TV and most recently, finding out that one of my favourite wallpaper companies have bought some of my work! I’m not able to say anymore just yet but will reveal all when I can!
As well as selling my wallpaper and fabric designs through an agent, I’m currently working on a lovely commission at York Hospital where I’m creating designs for architectural glass and laser cut steel wall panels and I’ve recently opened an online store with Society 6 where you can now buy products such as phone cases, cushions and laptop skins all with my designs on, so a busy start to the year already! I’m always open to new commissions, licensed work and collaborations.”
