A graduate of Leeds Metropolitan University, Zander Gregson shares his experiences of life at university and since graduation. He also shares some of his favourite pieces of work and working with big agencies in the UK and beyond.
“This time last year I felt pretty clueless about what I wanted to do, I had just graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a degree in Graphic Design and I was out of education for the first time in 18 years. All I knew was I wanted to do something creative, weather that was graphic design or illustration I wasn’t sure. I now know that neither have to be mutually exclusive and I realised that I was putting too much pressure on myself to become the finished article.”
“Since graduating I have picked up a range of experience from working for an events management company, producing adverts and programmes to working for an ad agency in Vancouver producing work for clients such as Pepsi. Both very commercial jobs in contrast to some of the freelance work I have produced. One of my main passions is to design for music and luckily my freelance work gives me the opportunity to do this. I have produced many brand identities, created cd artwork and developed a great relationship with bonafide magazine who I have produced illustrations for.
At this stage in my career I feel its important to have a balance of corporate work with more creative stuff and any opportunity I have to combine the two is brilliant. My style changes constantly and I have realised that this is a good thing. I think as a graphic designer especially its important to be versatile and I feel I now have the skills to apply my creativity across a broad spectrum weather design, illustration, corporate or creative.”
