Phillippa Copping is a textiles design who specialises in fashion prints, a graduate of the Cleveland College of Art and Design she is making great steps in the industry.
“I graduated last year with a 1st Class Honours in Textiles and Surface Design and since then I have exhibited at New Designers in London and had my design work featured on trend website WGSN. Whilst studying, I exhibited at Premiere Vision trade show in Paris, and also at PrintSource, New York where I worked as a sales agent and sold one of my designs to the American retailer ‘Bealls of Florida’. I have completed internships with Zandra Rhodes in London and I also spent 3 months on a post-grad internship at Milly in New York in autumn 2012 where I got to experience daily life with a luxury fashion brand and assist at events such as New York fashion week. I am continuing to develop my own design work, whilst actively looking for full time employment within a design studio.
My designs are inspired by global culture and nature. I am inspired by a whole host of wonderful things found within the natural environment which are vivid in their colouring and have unique markings and textures, such as insects and exotic florals. There is also a strong grain of tradition running through my design work. This aspect comes from the wonderful hand produced textiles/ costume and dress worn by members of African tribes for example, beaded jewellery worn by tribal leaders or craft based products sold at street markets in places like Marrakesh.”
