Melly-Em Clark has recently completed her degree in Illustration at The University of Lincoln, ‘Throughout my time there I have discovered my favourite materials and styles. Through dabbling with all kinds of mediums, I have grown to adore working with paint, in particular gouache and spend most of my days painting away.’
I always aim for my work to be fun, colourful and expressive of a retrospective style. My favourite areas to work in are editorial illustration, fashion illustration and greetings card design, though I love to try new things!
‘I have become hugely inspired by not only iconic illustrators such as Mary Blair and Lou Romano, but by my fellow illustrators and peers. Living in Lincoln, a city full of art and culture, has provided the company of other creative types, and fantastic opportunities. This year I have been involved with the restoration of The Ritz Cinema & Theatre, commissioned by the owner Pete Genders to create movie posters to be sold in their store to raise funds for the building. As a film obsessive, it was a great and fun experience, and I have continued to support The Ritz.
I have also experimented with areas of graphic design, assisting with imagery for Boutonniere Photography’s website, and a rebranding for Le Petit Artiste Children’s Theatre Company. This autumn, I am thrilled to be involved with The Gallery of Mo, a portrait-based Movember charity fundraising event. I have had my art exhibited at The Mac Gallery’s Neither Here Nor There exhibition this summer, and I am constantly on the lookout for new opportunities to share and promote my work.’
