A Textile design graduate of both Loughborough University and the popular “The Art and Business of Surface Design” course, Frances Boyd is a freelance texiles designer and artist currently based in the Isle of Man.
‘I graduated from Loughborough University with a Degree in Textile Design. Although I loved working with fabric, drawing was my true passion. A friend suggested I should enrol on “The Art and Business of Surface Design” course. Since completing the course early on in the year I have been working on my signature style and building a portfolio towards going solo as a Freelance Designer.
I am lucky enough to live on the beautiful Isle of Man – a place full of inspiration – and I am constantly drawing and photographing the nature that surrounds me. The Island also has a fab collection of vintage and charity shops, in which, after a good rummage, I usually find a piece of retro or antique fabric to inspire me!’
‘One of my designs was recently chosen for the new Keppler Collection at Quincy Lampshades. I also have several of my designs being licensed on the Keka iPad and iPhone cases.
In the future I would love to see my work featured more on a whole range of products for the home including wallpaper and maybe even used in the apparel world, who knows? As long as people are enjoying my work, I will create!’
