Royal College of Art Graduate Shows 2014

The Royal College Art’s annual graduate show, Show RCA 2014 will take place simultaneously across the College’s two campuses in Battersea and Kensington from 18 to 29 June 2014.

Show RCA offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the very best of emerging contemporary art and design practice. 575 art, design and humanities postgraduates from more than 40 countries will exhibit work of exceptional quality, imagination and technical skill. There are no admission charges to the exhibitions and much of the work is for sale or commission. Items range from paintings to prints, glassware to jewellery and furniture to textiles. Buyers have the opportunity to invest right at the beginning of an artist or designer’s professional career.

Show RCA 2014 features work from six different Schools – 22 programmes in total. This year sees the first graduating cohort from the newly established programmes of Information Experience Design, Interior Design and Service Design. Each School will be identified by its own distinct colour scheme and graphic identity, to allow for a clear visitor experience.

Show RCA Battersea will feature work from the School of Fine Art (Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture) and the School of Material (Ceramics & Glass, Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork & Jewellery, Fashion Accessories and Textiles) will for the first time be exhibiting together as a School in Battersea.

Show RCA Kensington will include students from the Schools of Architecture (Architecture and Interior Design), Design (Design Interactions, Design Products, Innovation Design Engineering, Service Design and Vehicle Design) exhibiting in the Darwin Building and the School of Communication (Animation, Information Experience Design and Visual Communication) will be taking over the Stevens Building, utilising studio spaces to display and sell their work.

RCA alumni include some of Britain’s most renowned names in art and design including Henry Moore, Sir James Dyson, Thomas Heatherwick; Christopher Bailey; David Hockney Tracey Emin; Zandra Rhodes and Orla Kiely.

The Show’s graphic identity, designed by 2013 graduates Giulia Garbin and Jack Llewellyn, digitally re-works six historic woodblock typefaces from the College’s Letterpress studio to represent each of the six Schools.
