‘Prior to this I completed an Art Foundation course specialising in Fine Art at Loughborough. For the past two years I have been Head of Illustration for the Loughborough Students’ magazine “Label”. I will be spending the next academic year as an exchange student in the School of Arts at the University of Michigan, USA to complete a diploma in International Studies.
Whilst in the 6th form at school I wanted to be a product designer and then, during the Art Foundation course, I changed my mind – from Graphic Communication, to Illustration and then to Fine Art, where I achieved a Merit. However on the last day of the course I changed my mind and chose to study Illustration and Animation at degree level. Illustration has been perfect for me as I can create work which relates to product design, graphic design and fine art.’
‘I began drawing in this photorealistic way in my spare time at University to enable me to improve my drawing skills, but now I have started to introduce this style into my university projects. I will always be in awe of photorealistic drawings; I love how skilled and precise the work is. Most of my recent drawings are of celebrities from TV, film and music. I always try to push myself with my next drawing by using different textures, e.g. rain, smoke and fabric.
More recently I have been mixing my pencil drawings with Photoshop by adding colour and other textures to create new images with my initial drawings. I hope to bring this way of working into future projects as I really enjoy mixing the traditional medium of drawing and more the modern way of working with Photoshop.’
