‘Gemma soon after exhibited work (after university) at New Designers, London where she secured freelance design work through a London based Textiles Design studio, designing fashion prints for high street retailers. This allowed her to exhibit work at some of the worlds best textiles trade shows including Indigo, Premier Vision and Surtex, but in time she decided she wanted to be known for the work she produced and decided to set up her own label.’
‘Anna Joe Design was created in 2013. To give herself a platform to create the bold, bright and graphic patterns she loved on to practical and functional interior and fashion accessories. Gemma had always been inspired by traditional prints and patterns and especially the work of William Morris and The Arts and Crafts movement, William Morris’s stylised flowers and simple forms made into beautiful decorative repeats still look beautiful in modern homes today, and the philosophy of the arts and crafts movement, to return to well made, handcrafted goods instead of mass manufactured items inspired her first collection.
The collection is made up of graphic floral motifs and patterns with modern colour palettes and includes both digitally printed and hand screen printed items including cushions, lavender bags, notebooks and wallpapers all made by hand. Gemma will be exhibiting the collection at Home is in the North Exhibition at Halle St Peters in Ancoats, Manchester on Sunday 15th of November.’
