Applemint Designs is a small studio based in rural Bedfordshire. I studied at Norwich University of the Arts and after completing my degree in Graphic Design, worked in a number of creative roles before going freelance 12 years ago after the birth of my daughter. I still work as a freelance designer specialising in branding and corporate identity but, feeling in need of a new direction, a few years ago I branched out into pattern design and illustration.
‘I create cheerful designs to brighten up stationery, textiles, ceramics and more, from fun novelty prints and modern florals to colourful geometrics and cute characters. I enjoy working with a range of media and create many of my designs by hand before manipulating them digitally. I love colour and typography and have a soft spot for anything a bit nostalgic – my work is inspired by everything from my collection of old children’s books to the changing seasons and the countryside around my home. I would love to design my own fabric collection and enjoy seeing my work on stationery, cards, gift wrap and paper products of any kind.
Drawing on this love of papergoods, I also produce my own range of stationery, prints and gifts available through Not on the High Street. The knowledge of print, typography and current trends I’ve gained over the course of my career allows me to create attractive, stylish products for people who appreciate good design and are looking for something a bit different. I love to think of my work brightening up somebody’s day, from a pretty notecard landing on the doormat to a fun print cheering up the kitchen wall.’
