Robyn Lara is recent graduate of Northbrook College Sussex where she studied Illustration, now working as a freelance Illustrator working in mixed media, sequential illustration, concept art, fashion illustration and character design.
‘My work is mainly figurative with the majority of my work being people/character driven. I use a mixture of media to create my illustrations. My tool list usually includes pencil, watercolour, fine liner, with Photoshop to overlay additional paint textures over my artwork to add depth. The main areas of illustration I’m interested in are fashion illustration, portraiture, concept art, character design as well as sequential narrative. My artistic influences come from the work of other illustrators such as MyDeadPony (aka Raphael Vicenzi), Katie Rodgers and Lois Van Baarle. I also take inspiration from Japanese street fashion, comic book art and the urban environment.’
‘I’m recent graduate of Northbrook College Sussex where I studied FdA Illustration. In completing a variety of practice briefs I expanded my adaptability as an illustrator through working in different contexts. (from packaging design to news articles) I then studied BA (Hons) Communication Design as a 1 year top-up to complete my degree. This gave me further insight into professional practice aspects of the industry as well as adapting my illustration style to a graphic design context. On completion of both courses I exhibited at New Designers in London. (2013, 2014)’
‘I’m currently focusing on personal projects and portfolio development. Since graduating I’ve been redefining my artistic style after exploring a looser approach to drawing during my final year, and have returned to a more linear style. I’ve also been developing a sequential narrative project where I’m exploring character led storytelling.’
