‘As a child I loved to draw for hours after reading, and through children’s illustration I get to relive those happy memories. Hopefully my illustrations will inspire children to do the same. Although my work is mostly aimed at the children’s market, I have also produced illustrations for adults which have the same style but are more humorous.
A lot of my work features animal characters. I love to draw animals with human characteristics as the variety and freedom to be creative with colours and shapes makes it a lot more fun than drawing humans. I am inspired by children’s illustrators such as Chris Haughton and Eric Carle as I love the way they use colour and shapes in their children’s books.’
‘I always start projects with pencil drawings in my sketchbook, which I develop and then scan and colour digitally. I create my final artwork on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator using simple shapes, flat colours and textures. At university I was able to develop my style and learn about the children’s publishing market. In my final year I wrote and illustrated my first children’s book ‘That Thieving Raccoon’.
I am currently working on self-initiated projects to build up my portfolio, and I am actively seeking freelance work.’
