Graphic Designer Holly E Dean

Holly E Dean studied Graphic and Communication Design at the University of Leeds and graduated this July.

‘My University course involved an industrial placement between my second and final years of study, where I was able to gain over 12 months experience in both design agency and in-house roles. My final project at university focussed on inspiration for design briefs through experiencing nature. This taught me to not just trawl through design inspiration websites hoping new ideas will materialise, but to step away from the screen once in a while. Not only are the diverse patterns, colours and textures inspiring, but escaping city life for an afternoon really allows me to clear my head and switch off. The work I created, such as the maps of each place I visited, are subtle hints at place suggested through monotone images and sound clips. To really experience them, you have to go outside yourself.’

‘I’m currently a few months into my new job as a graphic designer, working for a design agency in Chester. I’ve also started blogging about my experiences post-university, which has so far been a great way to network and meet like-minded people. They make me want to keep up to speed with them! I like to illustrate a bit on the side too, usually hand rendering sketches and modifying them in Photoshop.’
