‘I have often been very experimental and I like to use a variety of media in my designs, but all my illustrations begin with a collage and some cut out paper shapes. I love collage and the happiness of bright colours – simple things that make you smile.
I studied Illustration at the Arts University Bournemouth, and since graduating I have become more interested in repeat patterns and textile design. My influences in art and design are varied but I love the bold shapes and colours in Scandinavian illustration and design, and seeing the fantastic Matisse ‘Cut Outs’ exhibition at the Tate this year was a highlight of 2014.’
‘Last year was a busy one for me. I set up my own business, Little Paper Vee, selling some of my designs and illustrations online and at craft fairs such as Crafty Fox Market in South London. The community surrounding start up maker/designers is fantastic at the moment, and is continually growing. People genuinely love buying unique gifts from the person that made them, and it is such a thrill to see people’s reaction to your artwork first-hand.
I plan to learn new printmaking techniques, and am currently working on some new pattern designs which I hope print on to fabric myself, and use to expand my product range for Little Paper Vee in 2015.’
