‘I met some great friends at Falmouth and I loved living in such a beautiful corner of the country. I chose Falmouth because of it’s reputation and within five minutes of visiting the sunny Woodlane Campus I knew I didn’t want to go anywhere else.
After graduating, it took a while to get the ball rolling but after about 9 months of working for myself I began to get a steadier stream of work. I’m now working on my first children’s picture book which will be published this summer. I’d love to illustrate more for publishing in the future and I dream of illustrating a cookbook and more children’s books.’
‘I’ve gained most of my freelance experience by illustrating maps for various food and travel magazines. I love the research that goes alongside these projects, I always finish up with a severe case of wanderlust.
I currently draw most of my inspiration from my commercial work, I enjoy the research and would rather be working on a brief than doing self-initiated work. For now anyway. In the future I’d like to pursue my own projects a little more. Perhaps write and illustrate my own children’s book or cookbook. I keep toying with the idea of starting an illustrated recipe blog as I’m never not thinking about my next meal, so watch this space.’
‘I’m currently working on wedding stationary, food & lifestyle editorials and a new illustrated map which I will be sharing sneak peaks of on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter feeds. I’m also going to be involved in an Artist in Residence scheme with a local school from September – working with the children on some really fun activities, I can’t wait.’
