Freelance Graphic Designer Jack Fleming

Jack Fleming is a Norwich University of the Arts graphic design graduate.

‘Since graduating last July I have been able to successfully develop my design philosophy within an industry environment. After placements at Interstate, Dew Gibbons, Design Bridge and Brand Union, where I have been based since January, my work has continued to improve as I have had the chance to learn from some of the best creative teams in the UK.’

‘After completing a Foundation Art degree at Bedford College in 2011 I went on to study Graphic Design at Norwich University of the Arts graduating with a 2:1 in 2014. I am really interested in typography, and at Norwich I developed a massive appreciation for the role it can play in creating truly memorable images. Creative Review mentioned the effective use of typography in the review of my degree show, picking out my work for its ‘classic Norwich graphics. A neat little logo for Christ Church Oxford and some beautiful packaging for Fisherman’s Friends Mints.’

‘Much of my design has a hand-crafted feel to it and I enjoy the opportunity to create a physical piece of work, such as a set for packaging or for an advertisement, whenever I can, as the raw quality of images created by hand can convey a really effective message about a product or company. This interest in hand-designed work is influenced by my knowledge and use of art and graphic design from the past, from the Renaissance period on, and my growing skill in lino cutting. I am also inspired by the vision of successful modern designers such as Craig Oldham, who I was able to get to work with while at Norwich. Throughout the last year I have been able to work on a wide range of live briefs, and my current projects include a bespoke wedding stationary set and a book cover.’
